Welcome to Terry and Cynthia Pruett's Website

In 1603, James I became King of England. He didn’t like the Geneva Bible because the notes inferred that it was lawful for oppressed people to overthrow tyrannical kings. James commissioned a group of scholars to come up with a new version--essentially a revision of the 1568 Bishops Bible. In 1611, the most famous Bible in English Bible history—the Bible that has set the standard for nearly four centuries now—was published. We call it the King James Version.

This, in brief, is the history behind the Bibles we love today—Bibles we own because a great many men—and women—gave their lives to hand them down to us.

Today, in the most remote corners of the world, this very minute, translators are busy at work continuing the task of spreading the Word of God to every people in every language. In spite of incredible opposition both from within the church and without, the Bible is the all-time best-selling book in the entire history of the world. Today, the Scriptures are available in more than 4,800 of the 7000 languages spoken in the world. Truly, only God knows how many hundreds of millions of Bibles are being distributed throughout the world every year, not only in print, but through modern electronic and multimedia means as well. Even so, there is still work to be done.

This, then, is how the Bible came down to us today: some forty different authors, 1500 years in the writing, preserved through all the centuries. For some 3,400 years Satan has been trying his best to destroy, discredit, corrupt or lock up this book. He is still trying—as evidenced by the popularity of such recent abominations as the Da Vinci Code and the Gospel of Judas—the war is not over yet! But as God testifies through Isaiah, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.” This is the story of the inspired Word of God. You can trust its truths, and you need not fear that it will disappear. It will survive to the very end of time. For God, Himself, has guaranteed it!

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
